Name: Calix Fielding
Friend: Cal Hemper
Allias: Chris Clement

The Fielding family is of historical significance, but no longer with power. They are, however, still wealthy enough and proud enough.

Calix’s childhood friend, Cal Hemper, is of a family of current noble power, but of a low and distant branch. Cal was never content with his lower class lifestyle and Calix, though happy with how things were, feared his future responsibilities and expectations. Calix honored the four and Cal was beginning to look toward the Bastard in his strife. For a long time, Cal hoped to join the Father’s army. It started as a way out, but soon filled with all his grandeous hopes. Eventually he truly wished to protect the country and to bring honor to himself and his family line. Some quick illness took Cal in the winter in a matter of days. Calix did not hear until it was too late.

In a fit of frustration and fear Calix ran off to join the Father’s army in Cal’s name, hoping to fulfill his friend’s dreams so he would not have died in vain. It also conviniently got Calix out of his own troubles as well. Calix’s family assumed he ran off to be with one of his distant relatives as he often passively agressively threatened to do. Calix and his family were never harsh, but they made their differing views clear. Calix’s family is upset, but keeping it quiet for pride’s sake.

The army’s training was thrilling for Calix. He applied himself to any new skill or knowledge they offered, and he was free of the subtle weight always on his shoulders back home. Eventually an officer caught on to his guise and secretly prompted Calix to return home before things got worse. The officer helped him leave discreatly. Now Cal’s legacy is that of a deserter. There is a rare chance Calix may be recognized by a soldier on the road home as Cal the deserter or as himself by someone else.
